The 13 times table

Thirteen is a prime number, so it isn’t hiding inside a smaller table — but splitting it into 10 and 3 makes it easy.

  • 13×4=52

How to learn the 13s

Each line means “13 groups of”. So 13 × 4 = 52 means four groups of 13 make 52. Every answer is just 13 more than the one before: 13, 26, 39, 52, 65…

The highlighted facts, 13 × 7 = 91, 13 × 8 = 104, 13 × 9 = 117 and 13 × 12 = 156, are the ones learners usually find hardest. The tips below give you a way into each one.

Self-test: press “Hide answers”, say each answer out loud, then tap a fact to check it.

In real life

A “baker’s dozen” is 13. Three baker’s dozens of rolls are 13 × 3 = 39 rolls.

Tips & tricks

Three ways to make the 13s easy

Ten plus three

Do the 10s fact and the 3s fact, then add them.

13 × 7 = 70 + 21 = 91

Count on from 13 × 5

13 × 5 = 65 is a handy anchor. Add 13 to move up one step.

13 × 6 = 65 + 13 = 78

A deck of cards

A deck has 4 suits of 13 cards. That’s 13 × 4 = 52 cards.

13 × 4 = 52
Patterns

Spot the pattern

Last digits of 13 × 1 to 13 × 10:

Same endings as the 3s. 13, 26, 39, 52, 65, 78, 91, 104, 117, 130 end in 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0 — exactly like the 3s.

A surprise in the middle. 13 × 7 = 91. Many people think 91 is prime, but it isn’t!

Division

The matching division facts

Every multiplication fact gives you a division fact for free. If 13 × 7 = 91, then 91 ÷ 13 = 7.

  • 13 ÷ 13 = 1
  • 26 ÷ 13 = 2
  • 39 ÷ 13 = 3
  • 52 ÷ 13 = 4
  • 65 ÷ 13 = 5
  • 78 ÷ 13 = 6
  • 91 ÷ 13 = 7
  • 104 ÷ 13 = 8
  • 117 ÷ 13 = 9
  • 130 ÷ 13 = 10
  • 143 ÷ 13 = 11
  • 156 ÷ 13 = 12
