The 30 times table

The 30s are the 3s with a zero on the end — and half an hour is 30 minutes.

  • 30×1=30
  • 30×2=60
  • 30×3=90
  • 30×4=120
  • 30×5=150
  • 30×6=180
  • 30×7=210
  • 30×8=240
  • 30×9=270

How to learn the 30s

Each line means “30 groups of”. So 30 × 4 = 120 means four groups of 30 make 120. Every answer is just 30 more than the one before: 30, 60, 90, 120, 150…

The highlighted facts, 30 × 7 = 210, 30 × 8 = 240, 30 × 9 = 270 and 30 × 12 = 360, are the ones learners usually find hardest. The tips below give you a way into each one.

Self-test: press “Hide answers”, say each answer out loud, then tap a fact to check it.

In real life

Many months have 30 days, so 30 × 12 = 360 days is close to a year (365).

Tips & tricks

Three ways to make the 30s easy

Threes, then a zero

Do the 3s fact and put a 0 on the end.

3 × 7 = 21 → 30 × 7 = 210

Half hours

30 × 2 = 60 minutes, one hour. Count half hours to find longer times.

30 × 5 = 150 minutes = 2½ hours

Double the 15s

Find the 15s answer, then double it.

15 × 8 = 120 → 30 × 8 = 240
Patterns

Spot the pattern

Last digits of 30 × 1 to 30 × 10:

Hide the zero. Cover the final 0 and you see the 3s: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18…

A full turn. 30 × 12 = 360 — the number of degrees in a full circle.

Division

The matching division facts

Every multiplication fact gives you a division fact for free. If 30 × 7 = 210, then 210 ÷ 30 = 7.

  • 30 ÷ 30 = 1
  • 60 ÷ 30 = 2
  • 90 ÷ 30 = 3
  • 120 ÷ 30 = 4
  • 150 ÷ 30 = 5
  • 180 ÷ 30 = 6
  • 210 ÷ 30 = 7
  • 240 ÷ 30 = 8
  • 270 ÷ 30 = 9
  • 300 ÷ 30 = 10
  • 330 ÷ 30 = 11
  • 360 ÷ 30 = 12
