  • 15×4=60
  • 15×5=75
  • 15×6=90
  • 15×7=105
  • 15×8=120
  • 15×9=135

How to learn the 15s

Each line means “15 groups of”. So 15 × 4 = 60 means four groups of 15 make 60. Every answer is just 15 more than the one before: 15, 30, 45, 60, 75…

The highlighted facts, 15 × 7 = 105, 15 × 9 = 135 and 15 × 11 = 165, are the ones learners usually find hardest. The tips below give you a way into each one.

Self-test: press “Hide answers”, say each answer out loud, then tap a fact to check it.

In real life

Three quarter-hours are 15 × 3 = 45 minutes, the length of many school lessons.

Tips & tricks

Three ways to make the 15s easy

Ten, plus half of it

Find 10 × the number, then add half of that.

15 × 6 = 60 + 30 = 90

Quarter hours

15 × 4 = 60 minutes, one hour. 15 × 2 = 30, half past.

15 × 4 = 60

Half of the 30s

Multiply by 30 (3s with a zero), then halve.

15 × 8 = 240 ÷ 2 = 120
Patterns

Spot the pattern

Last digits of 15 × 1 to 15 × 10:

5, 0, 5, 0. Odd steps end in 5 and even steps end in 0: 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90…

An hour every 4 steps. 15 × 4 = 60, 15 × 8 = 120, 15 × 12 = 180 — every 4 steps adds another 60.

Both 3s and 5s. Every 15s answer is in the 3s table and the 5s table.

Division

The matching division facts

Every multiplication fact gives you a division fact for free. If 15 × 7 = 105, then 105 ÷ 15 = 7.

  • 15 ÷ 15 = 1
  • 30 ÷ 15 = 2
  • 45 ÷ 15 = 3
  • 60 ÷ 15 = 4
  • 75 ÷ 15 = 5
  • 90 ÷ 15 = 6
  • 105 ÷ 15 = 7
  • 120 ÷ 15 = 8
  • 135 ÷ 15 = 9
  • 150 ÷ 15 = 10
  • 165 ÷ 15 = 11
  • 180 ÷ 15 = 12
