How to learn the 25s

Each line means “25 groups of”. So 25 × 4 = 100 means four groups of 25 make 100. Every answer is just 25 more than the one before: 25, 50, 75, 100, 125…

The highlighted facts, 25 × 3 = 75, 25 × 7 = 175, 25 × 9 = 225 and 25 × 11 = 275, are the ones learners usually find hardest. The tips below give you a way into each one.

Self-test: press “Hide answers”, say each answer out loud, then tap a fact to check it.

In real life

Nine quarters are 25 × 9 = 225 cents, or $2.25.

Tips & tricks

Three ways to make the 25s easy

Four quarters make a dollar

25 × 4 = 100. Every 4 steps adds another 100.

25 × 8 = 200, 25 × 12 = 300

A quarter of a hundred

Multiply by 100, then divide by 4.

25 × 7 = 700 ÷ 4 = 175

Half of the 50s

Find 50 × the number (5s with a zero), then halve it.

25 × 9 = 450 ÷ 2 = 225
Patterns

Spot the pattern

Last digits of 25 × 1 to 25 × 10:

25, 50, 75, 00. The last two digits repeat 25, 50, 75, 00: 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200…

Odd ends in 5. Odd steps end in 5 and even steps end in 0 — like the 5s, because 25 = 5 × 5.

Division

The matching division facts

Every multiplication fact gives you a division fact for free. If 25 × 3 = 75, then 75 ÷ 25 = 3.

  • 25 ÷ 25 = 1
  • 50 ÷ 25 = 2
  • 75 ÷ 25 = 3
  • 100 ÷ 25 = 4
  • 125 ÷ 25 = 5
  • 150 ÷ 25 = 6
  • 175 ÷ 25 = 7
  • 200 ÷ 25 = 8
  • 225 ÷ 25 = 9
  • 250 ÷ 25 = 10
  • 275 ÷ 25 = 11
  • 300 ÷ 25 = 12
