How to use them

Printing and using the worksheets

  1. Pick the facts

Start with one table the child is learning, in order. When they know it, switch to Mixed up, then mix it with tables they already know.

  2. Print

Press Print worksheet. The sheet comes out on its own page and the answer key on the next. It fits US Letter and A4. Turn off “Headers and footers” in the print dialog for the cleanest page.

  3. Check together

Mark the sheet with the answer key, then look at the misses together. Circle them and make the next sheet from just those tables.

Tips by grade

Which worksheet for which grade?

Every child is different, so treat these as starting points, not rules.

Grade 2 (age 7–8)

Equal groups and skip counting. Try the 2s, 5s and 10s in order, 20 problems. Drawing dots or groups next to a problem is fine.

Grade 3 (age 8–9)

This is the big times tables year: in the US Common Core, children should know all products of two one-digit numbers from memory by the end of grade 3. Work through 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s, then mixed 2–10 with 30 problems.

Grade 4 (age 9–10)

Keep the facts fast while bigger multiplication starts. Mixed 2–12, 50 problems, and the missing number style (7 × ▢ = 56), which also builds the division facts.

Grade 5 and up

A quick mixed 1–12 sheet now and then keeps facts sharp. For a challenge, try the 13s to 20s, 25s or 30s: the app and this page go up to the 30 times table. Adults brushing up on their own facts can use the same sheets: a mixed 1–12 sheet of 50 problems is a quick check.

How to practice

Short, often and kind

  • A few minutes a day beats one long session a week. One sheet of 20 or 30 problems is plenty.
  • Untimed first. Get the facts right, then get them fast. When a child is ready for a clock, try the 60-second times table speed test.
  • Learn the tricky facts on purpose. Many children find 6 × 7, 7 × 8 and 8 × 6 the hardest. Each times table page has tricks for its hard facts.
  • Use the turn-arounds. 4 × 7 is the same as 7 × 4, so the mixed-up sheets sometimes write facts the other way round. A 12 × 12 times table chart shows why there are only 78 facts to learn.
  • Make it a game. Beat yesterday’s score, not someone else’s, or swap paper for one of our times table games online.
For teachers

In the classroom

  • Press New problems to get a different sheet with the same settings, so neighbours don’t share answers.
  • The missing number style works well as a warm-up before division.
  • 100-problem sheets print on two pages, with the answer key on a third.
  • Everything is free to print and share with your class. No accounts, and this website collects nothing from children.
